Marina Rei, conosciuta semplicemente come Marina, nasce a Roma nel 1985. Inizia la sua carriera musicale nel 2005, pubblicando il suo primo EP, "Morbida Marina e la Sua Bestia". Il progetto prende il nome da un sogno che Marina aveva fatto durante l'infanzia, in cui si immaginava come una creatura metà umana e metà bestia, che viveva in un mondo fantastico.
